Case Study: Board Away Day
We were invited to design and facilitate a Board Away Day for a complex, values-led organisation balancing strong individual perspectives, new Trustees and the need for clear direction. The aim was to step back from day-to-day delivery, reconnect with purpose and build shared clarity about priorities and strategy.
We framed the whole day as a journey, facilitating stages of the day so differences surfaced early, decisions flowed and discussions were purposeful. The day combined dynamic, creative tasks and was designed for different access needs, ensuring everyone could participate fully. There were even surprise gifts for everyone that reinforced their purpose and recognised the Board’s contribution to the work of the organisation.
We tackled misalignment directly — refreshing purpose, addressing communication challenges and creating the conditions for more functional conversations. At the heart of the day was our Strategy Tree framework, which helped the board translate values into a small number of clear priorities and actions — making it easier to move from broad agreement to practical decision-making.
By the end of the day, the group had a shared strategic framework and a clearer set of priorities, alongside a stronger sense of collective ownership and a more effective way of working together.

“Really focused and loved being kept to task when it would be easy to just chat around stuff all day! Fantastic thank you.”
“I thought it was great – really good facilitation and excellently held for all of us. We’ve a range of personalities in the room but my hope is that this day makes us more functional as a team.”
